“Let’s Connect” Event Report

The “Let’s Connect” event was held via Zoom on Saturday January 30 from 11:00am–12:30pm, as a collaborative effort between SOCEM and Cooperative ESL Ministries (CESLM) in Calgary. About 20 from Ontario, Alberta, BC and Manitoba participated. We had a brief opening with some thoughts from the representative from SOCEM and an introduction of all the participants through chat. Then we divided into breakout rooms of 3–4 for 30 minutes. Participants were given questions to discuss in their small groups: for example, what is the most encouraging and most challenging thing in ESL that you encountered, what is one tip or idea you can share, etc. They are also encouraged to pray for each other during that time. Then we all came back to the main room to debrief and hear from each group. The representative of CESLM shared some closing thoughts.

Many found the meeting encouraging. Comments we received afterwards include: “It was an honour to connect with you all. I appreciate the tips and inspiration.” “Just having the opportunity to connect with other EAL teachers was such a blessing!” “It was good to meet others from different provinces in the breakout room.” “Pray for us. It’s a lot at times, but this was really encouraging!”

It was a privilege to collaborate with Jennifer and SOCEM for our “Let’s Connect” event! What a great opportunity to meet and pray with others who share our heart for new Canadians.
